We fear a lot of things. Our fears range from the completely ridiculous to the entirely serious. They can really get a hold of us and rule our lives if left unchecked. We can tell a lot about a person by what they fear. Further, we can tell a lot about a person from what they trust or believe in. Fear and trust actually go hand in hand.
Here in Psalm 56 we get a glimpse into David's life. We learn a lot about him from just this one verse. David, because of his faith and trust in God, is not fearful. Despite being chased down and having his life threatened David is not afraid. The question is why? He has every reason to be. David's trust in God and the purpose that God has given him was greater than the fear that he might lose his life.
The good news is that none of us are facing the same challenge as David. As far as I know, no one's life is being threatened by another. That being said, we all fear something. We trust as well. Our daily task in faith is to allow our trust in God to overcome those fears we may have - no matter what they are. We are called to express the same idea that David did - "nothing can destroy me . . . I trust in God alone." This is hard, but because of Christ's death on the cross, we are able to confidently say this.
Today let's not live in fear, but choose to live in trust; trust that we place in a good, good, God.
