I was reading 2nd Chronicles 20 yesterday for my devotion and came across the story of Jehoshaphat. Jehoshaphat was facing war from 2 other countries. Instead of trying to take them on on his own he makes a decision. An important decision. His decision was to turn to God and ask for help. He seeks out God and remind God of his promise to stand with his people. In return for trusting God, God turns the enemies against themselves. Actually, it’s more like Jehoshaphat got victory before he even had the fight. Jehoshaphat called on God, the God of Abraham Isaac and Joseph, and God saved him and the Israelite people from defeat.
Jehoshaphat made the right decision.And it said that God gave Jehoshaphat peace on every side
Interestingly enough, only a few verses down Jehoshaphat makes a bad decision.
it says that Jehoshaphat made a partnership with Ahaziah, the king of Israel. It says that Isaiah’s ways were wicked and by making the partnership with him none of Jehoshaphat plans would come to fruition. The reputation of Jehoshaphat as one who sought out God was ruined by one decision.
One decision.
It’s important for us to remember daily, that we are always only one decision away from being led away from God. Whether it’s our money, our time, our relationships – no matter what is it is our job to do what Jehoshaphat did – seek God 1st
as you go through your day today think about the person of Jehoshaphat and ask yourself if you are consistent in your decisions–do you seek God out in every one of them.
